Understaffed facilities. Rapid lateral flow tests (COVID, flu, RSV, strep) that can be reused, swapped, or pre-contaminated. A “witness” column that collapses into a signature the moment a CMS surveyor or a plaintiff’s attorney actually reads it. HAI liability mounting with every test nobody can prove was real.

VynMed builds the missing layer: point-of-care recording that captures a rapid infection strip under controlled conditions, fingerprints the chain of custody, and produces the forensic record regulators and lawyers ask for, without rewriting the way a facility already runs.

The record a Director of Nursing can actually hand to a surveyor, an attorney, or a family in the same week. Signed, timestamped, and tamper-evident.

What we build

VynScan is a single-button countertop device. Staff insert a rapid lateral flow infection test strip (COVID, flu, RSV, strep). The device photographs the strip under controlled lighting and timing and stores a cryptographically signed record automatically, so a facility can substantiate that a test was performed, when, and by whom. Staff read the result the way they always have, per the test's instructions.

VynMed’s CEO is the sole inventor named on U.S. Patent 12,308,098 B1. No lab integration. No new compliance SOP. Under-a-minute hands-on time for the nurse on the floor. It works with the rapid test strips a facility already stocks, so there is nothing new to buy.

Who we build it for

VynMed exists for the people who get the call when a test result is contested: Directors of Nursing, compliance officers, medical directors, and facility administrators at skilled nursing and long-term care communities. The people whose job is to hand a clean, defensible record to a CMS surveyor, a state board, or an attorney, and whose liability begins the moment that record doesn’t exist.

The founder

Walter’s stepfather died in a rehab facility early in COVID. Fear drove him out before his recovery was complete. Years later, Walter got sick after a social gathering and had a sudden thought: why couldn’t we have tested everyone before we hung out? A rapid test would have taken thirty seconds. The honest answer was that there was no way to make that test defensible once it was done.

Walter is a licensed professional engineer in thermodynamics and hydraulics, with a chemical engineering degree from Villanova and eighteen years in power generation. He began in commercial nuclear, qualifying as a nuclear equipment operator under NRC examination, spent five years as a senior mechanical systems and thermal performance engineer, and today manages operations at a 500 megawatt generating station, supervising twelve people and answering to NERC, FERC, DOE, EPA, WECC and state inspectors. That is eighteen years of proving a system will hold to people whose full-time job is to doubt it, in industries where being wrong is not recoverable.

The device did not come out of a weekend. It came out of five years of deliberate hardware development before there was a company to put it in: embedded and connected prototypes, Bluetooth and wireless transport, camera and imaging integration, enclosure design and additive manufacturing, and repeated build, test and revise cycles against real failure modes rather than simulations. He did that engineering rather than contracting it out, and he filed and prosecuted the patent himself, to grant. U.S. Patent 12,308,098 B1 names him as sole inventor, and it survived a prior art challenge from a large foundation with deep resources. What it claims is a method that captures a photographic record of a rapid lateral flow strip under controlled conditions in seconds, fingerprints the chain of custody, and produces the record a facility actually needs.

What that produces in a facility is a clean, timestamped record of a rapid test that a regulator can follow. It does not add work to the nurse’s job. It takes the burden of proof off the staff, so they can focus on care.

Today he runs the company. He incorporated it, funded it, and holds the relationships a medical-adjacent product lives or dies on: outside counsel, insurers, accountants, and the manufacturing and supply partners behind the device. He owns the regulatory posture, the corporate governance, and the commercial direction, and he decides what the company will and will not claim, which in this category is the decision that matters most. The operating discipline is the one he brought from the generating stations: formal work controls, pre-job risk review, and root-cause investigation with corrective actions tracked to closure. He runs VynMed from Henderson, Nevada.
